Are there different types of VoIP?

Answered By Editor

Yes. There are different ways on how you can use VoIP. Here are the methods on how you can use VoIP in different ways:

The first method for using VoIP is through ATA. ATA is short for Analog Telephone Adaptor. What this does is that it will enable you to use your traditional landline phone for VoIP. It will convert your traditional touchtone landline phone's analog signal to digital signal and transmit it over the Internet.

The second method in using VoIP is through IP phones. These phones look like traditional touchtone landline phones. It has the same buttons and same features. However, the only difference is that instead of your traditional phone jack, it will have Ethernet connectors. You can plug it directly to your hub or your router.

The last and the most common way to use VoIP is through your computer. All you have to do is install VoIP software, a PC mic, and a PC speaker and you can call anyone with the same software for free or you can call landline phones for an affordable fee.
