What are the advantages and disadvantages of VoIP?
Answered By Editor
Since the calls made through VoIP uses the
Internet to transmit voice data, the main
advantage of VoIP is that it allows people
access to cheap or sometimes free long
distance phone calls. Also, it allows people
access to features that is impossible or is
very expensive in traditional landline phones
like voice mails, video conferencing,
conference calls, fax and other services for
free. Voice data also travels faster because
it is transmitted over the Internet.
One major flaw in VoIP is reliability. As
you may know, your traditional landline phone
runs with phantom power that is provided by
the telecommunication company. However, VoIP
is dependent on your wall power. This means
that you cannot have access to your VoIP
phone if you don't have electricity in your
home or in your office.
However clear and fast communication
through VoIP phone may be had, you may
experience some flaws from time to time but
this is far and few. You may experience some
flaw in your DSL Internet as well causing a
disruption in the service. This will be the
same thing you will experience in VoIP phones
while having a phone call that will result in
distorted or garbled audio quality.
