Can you answer GirlUdontKnow’s question about VoIP?:
Why would using a broadband phone be cheaper? Especially since you still need to pay the land line phone company for the dial tone to use your DSL Broadband connection?

Don’t you essentially wind up with 2 phone bills, your land phone bill and you broadband phone bill?
Is the savings more for people who use a lot of long distance?
VoIP Tips

VoIP Feedback: Yes … the savings are generally if you make long distance calls … or International Calls …
For example … to ring my Mom on a land line it costs me like $2.50 for about 1 hour …. using my broadband it costs me 10 cents
VoIP Feedback: i have wireles dsl and the internet phone saves about 18 bucks a month
VoIP Feedback: u dont need dial tone through ur local telephone company if u hv it throught ur cable company. it is cheaper only if hv tv and phone service w the same cable company. u can also get dsl through ur local tel company. the only draw bk w having service throught ur cable company is if the internet is down, so will ur phone line. if there is a blackout, ur phone wont work w cable service.
VoIP Feedback: I have had a broadband phone for 2.5 years. I no longer have a land line. My internet is a broadband cable connection. I save money because my monthly phone bill is less than $20 and I can phone Canada, the US and Mexico any time, unlimited. None of the land line phone companies can offer anything similar that suits me, and I am quite happy with this system. It is cheap, reliable, and works very well.
VoIP Feedback: I have a broadband phone, it does NOT go thru a land line. It goes thru my cable connection. I don’t pay a land line phone company anything. I pay 19 bucks a month, for unlimited long distance, and my cable bill which I would pay anyways. In the area I live in its 19 bucks for broadband phone verses 80 bucks to AT&T for unlimited. So I pick the lest priced one.
VoIP Feedback: It depends on how you get DSL service, whom you have it through, and which broadband phone service you want to use.
DSL is not a phone line. Just keep that in mind. Its provided by your phone company, but that’s the extent of it.
Just think of it this way,
you have a land line ($40 mo)
You have internet service (cable/dsl) - $50/mo
You have your dsl line - ($30 /mo)
So now, you look at broadband phone and it purporst to be $30/mo
You can now nix your landline from your phone company since you’ll be saving $10 / mo with the broadband service.
or you can nix both your dsl and land line, GET cable internet (better) and then the broadband phone line.
Even more money saved.
VoIP Feedback: You mostly get the savings from long-distance.
I have cable internet and broadband phone. So I only pay one phone bill and one internet bill.
VoIP Feedback: It’s very simple actually, kinda like having Bellsouth’s home telephone service and their DSL internet service. You can be online and still make and recieve your phone calls at the same time. That’s actually two different applications going thru one cable. Broadband also consists of one cable, with the ability to perform more than one application. You’re calls would be one of those applications. You’d be able to make calls to countries all over the world, for only pennys per minute. With vontage, you can do it thru your Broadband service for around $29 a month, unlimited worldwide calling. Great question by the way. Larry Radio Shack 01-9590
